SEMINAR 2024 DEMONSTRATORS

Derek Weidmam (USA)

Derek Weidman lives in rural Pennsylvania. Initially studying philosophy incollege, but a born artist, he chooseto follow in the path of his father who was a birdcarver. When he began turning, he approached the lathe as a sculptor, primarily exploring and pushing the boundaries of multi-axis turning with a mixture of germanring turning added in.

Roberto Cecconello (IT)

We are delighted to welcome Roberto to Ireland for his first demonstration here. Based in Italy his work is visially appealing and unique.

Nikos Siragas. (GR)

Nikos specializes in combining turning and carving to create artistic sculptural forms using mainly local woods from the island of Crete, Greece, where he has lived all his life. He takes his inspiration from the sea, as well as being influenced both by the natural environment and the classic forms of Ancient Greece. He has a vast woodturning experience as he has supplied his own gallery for nearly 40 years. He has helped in restoration projects of Venetian and Turkish buildings in the historic old town of Rethymno, Crete. In addition to teaching and demonstrating internationally for the last 25 years, Nikos continues to run his gallery in Rethymno and has held woodturning courses in his workshop, designed tools for a UK manufacturer and written articles for Woodturning magazine.

Chris Parker (UK)

Another demonstrator making his Irish debut. Chris parker will be well know to his numerous follows on Instagram and FB

Emmet Kane (IRL)

Emmet Kane needs no introduction to Irish woodturners, or indeed to many woodturners around the world. Emmets demonstrations are sure to entertain, inspire and educate.

Emmet was born and raised in Castledermot, Co. Kildare Ireland. He comes from five generations of Master Craftsmen.Self-taught Woodturner/Sculptor since 1988, Kane’s work is always evolving from creating thin-walled vessels, hollowvessels, wall pieces and large scale sculpture, which all defy the difficulties of the medium and whose use of colour, is more readily associated with ceramics or glass. Today he works predominantly in native hardwoods, citing a particular fondness for Irish oak, which he textures and ebonises, gilds and colours
